| FHC- | Tracking Debt Updates Using Debt IDs | March 20, 2026 | Basic |
This article describes how to track specific debt updates using Debt IDs in the FORTH CRM. It is organized into the following sections:
Overview
Prerequisites: Users have the "View History" and "Access System Logs" permissions enabled.
The FORTH CRM includes unique Debt Identification Numbers (i.e., Debt IDs) in all update logs to ensure your records are accurate and easy to track. This feature prevents confusion when a contact has multiple debts with the same creditor, saving you time during audits. By tracking every change from any source using a unique Debt ID, you can verify which debt was modified without manual searching.
Identifying which exact debt record was updated with a new balance or status is critical for calculating settlement percentages and fee structures. Without a unique ID, a contact with two debts of $5,000 from the same creditor would be indistinguishable in many legacy logs.
How to Access
Debt ID logging does not require manual activation. However, the visibility of these logs depends on having the role-based permission to navigate to specific areas of the FORTH CRM where debt history is recorded.
- Log in to the Forth CRM.
- Click on the Contacts tab and then search for and select a specific client file.
- Upon selecting a contact, the Client Dashboard opens, providing a snapshot of the account.
-
The Debt ID is displayed across three primary locations in the FORTH CRM:
-
Click the Debts nested tab to view the list of enrolled or pending debts.
-
Click the History nested tab to view specific update logs for a debt.
-
To see broad system updates, click the Admin tab and select System Log from the navigation bar.
-
Click the Debts nested tab to view the list of enrolled or pending debts.
How it Works
When an update occurs through the user interface, a third-party integration sync such as CFT, or an API call, the FORTH CRM looks up and captures the unique Debt ID associated with the primary key of that record. This ID is then stored in the history_logs and system_activity_logs tables, before the transaction is finalized.
The system captures and stores the Debt ID for updates to all critical debt fields. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Current Amount,
- Original Amount,
- Enrollment Status,
- any creditor-specific metadata.
Historical Backfill
This feature includes a backfill process designed to associate existing log entries with their corresponding Debt IDs. This process analyzes historical logs and matches them to active or archived debt records based on reliable references. If a historical log entry cannot be linked to a specific Debt ID with 100% confidence, the system leaves the log entry unchanged.
